PUMA L.I.F.T.
ROLE:
Lead Developer (sole developer on this project)

DESCRIPTION:
For this project firstborn teamed up with droga5 and created an interactive video experience in which the user can weigh the new Puma shoe against everyday objects. Our goal was simply to show (not tell) in a funny and interesting way how light the shoe is. I was the Lead Developer for this project, but was also involved in concepting and planning of the video shoot (for example experimenting with different shooting and "stitching" styles in the very beginning of the project). Next to the main site I also developed the teaser site and the "Pullback" banner execution - which you can see both in the case study in firstborn's portfolio.

UST Control Your Credit
ROLE:
Lead Developer (working with one developer, both of us working on front- and backend)

DESCRIPTION:
For this online adventure firstborn teamed up with Lowe. The task was to help the US treasury demonstrate the importance of one’s individual credit score. ControlYourCredit.gov educates users about personal finance beneath the guise of a spooky journey through the Bad Credit Hotel. The environment is an intricate blend of 3D renders and HD live action video, cloaked in dark corners with dimly lit scenes that mimic classic black and white film noir of the 1950s. Users can only move ahead after hidden pockets of useful information are unveiled with the ultimate goal being to reach Room #850. My involvement in this project started early on with the conceptional phase, I helped out during the design phase (for example by doing the motion work for the intro sequence) and lead the development phase.

National Grid Floe
ROLE:
Lead Developer (working with two backend developers )

DESCRIPTION:
Firstborn and Mullen created this informative online experience for National Grid’s "Power of Action” campaign. The website is an interactive arctic landscape that educates users about the environmental effects of their daily routines. Visitors can gauge their current impact and keep a personalized action list of daily activities that will reduce this impact. Users can also meet other energy-conscious individuals through the site’s online community or befriend their very own virtual polar bear. Firstborn modeled every detail of the 3D environment, from the polar bears and melting ice floes to the interactive cub games. Our team also worked closely with Mullen to develop an intuitive user experience that appeals to a multi-generational audience.

Portfolio Maria Wei Wang
ROLE:
Lead Developer (sole developer on this project)

DESCRIPTION:
I developed the personal portfolio of art director Maria Wei Wang. The challenges for this project were the tight deadline, as well as technical requirements like the possibility to easily manage the content or deeplinking into the different projects.

Tech Demos - A few quick experiments in Flash and PHP

Twitter Response Map
DESCRIPTION:
This little experiment makes use of the Five3D Engine, the Twitter and Google API, as well as a few PHP classes I wrote. You can enter any Twitter username, to show the location of that user as well as the location on the globe of the last few people who responded to his tweets.

Augmented Reality
DESCRIPTION:
Since Augmented Reality is somewhat the favor of the month in the Flash Community, I also had to experiment with it a little bit. Most people seem to get blinded by the technical possibility of the FlarToolkit though and forget all too often that the idea should always come first; not the technical execution. Anyway; to see my little tech demo you'll need to have a webcam installed and print out the pdf with the tracker (here) first. Enjoy.

Flower Generator
DESCRIPTION:
Some time ago I saw a YouTube video of a demo from "Moppi Productions" made in 2004. I knew this demo for a long time already and have been watching it repeatedly for years now - so I thought it's about time to try to reproduce this effect in actionscript 3 as an exercise. The Drawing API in Flash is far from being the optimal solution for creating this kind of effect so I found myself spending most of the time on improving the performance of my initial script and had to compromise a lot. Check out what I've come up with after a few days of tinkering in my free time.

Google API with Papervision
DESCRIPTION:
For one of firstborn's project pitches, I made a little demo that showcases the combined usage of Papervision 3D and the Google Maps API. You can enter any location you want, into the textfield (i.e. "Germany", "10036 USA", "Wall St. New York", etc.) and as soon as you click the button, the little orange indicator hovering over the globe moves to the location you just entered...
