I developed a Flash module for Microsoft’s "Because it’s everybody’s business" campaign page. The application allows speakers from all over the world to discuss topics in a roundtable without ever having to leave their webcam.

The Flash application that I developed simulates a roundtable discussion by using the footage of a webcam conference, taking the individual speakers' feeds and using them as heads
of paper cutout persons. The user can then view the discussion like a regular video, while being informed about the currently discussed topic and having the ability
to check out the speakers' biographys and related content at the same time.
A flexible XML that controls the application allows to easily create new roundtables in new locations, about new topics,
with different participants and different speakers.

I worked closely with Akamai on this project, who provided the Flash Media Server that this application would be using. One of the many interesting and unique aspects of the video playback for this project is, that the application is aware of which person is currently speaking in the video.

In order to guarantee perfect synchronization for both image and sound despite having several speakers talking to each other, the individual camera recordings were merged into one video stream. On the client side in Flash this combined footage was then broken up again and copied into the appropriate places on the site.
